but it doesn't work. They gave me the unlock code and it said 'unlock successful' , but then I restarted it with a total wireless CDMA sim card and it says 'invalid sim card detected' and obviously it's still on xfinity mobile.

Phone about still says 'xfinity mobile.' Price per sound effect.
so .. what's locking it to xfinity mobile still? it has clean ESN and won't accept another non-xfinity mobile sim.
Is there a way to flash it to get rid of xfinity mobile?
thanks.
edit: phone is SM-950U

Comcast has presented some very attractive pricing with a $45 unlimited data plan or a pay-as-you-go plan that only costs $12 per gigabyte with no per line fee. It's in the ballpark of Google's pricing for Project Fi, which runs on T-Mobile and Sprint. That sounds great and all, but here's the first catch: you only get the good pricing if you also pay Xfinity lots of money already. The service is only available to Comcast customers. Also, the unlimited plan actually costs $65 unless you're subscribing the the most expensive Xfinity X1 home entertainment package.
The selection of phones will also be a major turn-off for some customers. You have to purchase a phone from Comcastâno bringing your own unlocked device. Xfinity Mobile will have iPhones and several unnamed Android devices from Samsung and LG. However, you will end up overpaying for the phone.

Comcast has been rumored to be interested in launching its own wireless service for years, and it confirmed the speculation in 2016. It didn't explain how it was planning to move forward, though. Now we knowâit's called Xfinity Mobile, which is running on the Verizon Network. It seems cheap at first glance, but there are some caveats.
This is what's known as an MVNO (mobile virtual network operator). Comcast is basically renting capacity on Verizon's towers to run its own carrier. You pay Comcast every month, but you're using Verizon's network equipment. That means if you have good Verizon coverage where you live (most people do), you'll have good Xfinity Mobile coverage.

Why keep the phones locked down? Comcast is leveraging its network of WiFi hotspots to keep usage of the Verizon network from getting out of control. When you're near a Comcast network, the phone will automatically connect to it. Many of these hotspots are projected by the router/modem hardware in homes, so there are millions of them. The phone has to include services that force that connection, so they have to be modified for Xfinity Mobile.
So, you're going to spend big on the phone, and wireless service won't save you much money overall when you're required to pay for Comcast's other services. There will be some unspecified bundle discounts, though. Xfinity Mobile might be a good deal for a subset of people who already subscribe to all of Comcast's services. That's what this looks likeâa way to push more services in a bundle, not an attempt to compete with other carriers.
